A Devotional on Deliverance, Faith, and the God Who Keeps Us
Scripture References
“Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.” — Exodus 14:13
“The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” — Exodus 14:14
“He led them by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.” — Psalm 78:14
There comes a moment in every believer’s life when you realize you are standing at your own Red Sea. Behind you is Egypt. Old cycles. Bondage. Fear. Limitations. In front of you is water. No visible path. No clear outcome. And around you is pressure.
That is where the Israelites stood in Exodus 14. They had finally left slavery, but freedom did not immediately feel safe. Pharaoh changed his mind. The army pursued them. The sea blocked them. Panic spread quickly.
And yet Moses spoke words that still echo today. “Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.”
God did not need their strength. He needed their trust.
The sea parted not because they had a strategy, but because God had a plan. The ground dried. The people crossed. The enemy drowned. Deliverance was not delayed. It was revealed.
But Exodus did not end at the Red Sea. The wilderness came next.
And here is what is so powerful. God did not just bring them out. He kept them.
He led them with a cloud by day and fire by night. He fed them with manna. He brought water from a rock. Their clothes did not wear out. Their feet did not swell.
That is sustaining grace.
I have had wilderness seasons in my own life. Seasons where I knew God had brought me out of something, but I was not yet where I thought I would be. It felt in between. Unsettled. Dependent. And yet, when I look back, I see that God kept me. Provision came daily. Strength came when needed. Direction showed up just in time.
This is my Exodus. And this is yours too. And the question that presses deeply is this. What will history say about our faith?
Will it say that you trusted God when the way forward was unclear? Will it say that you followed Him even when you missed Egypt’s familiarity? Will your story reflect fear or faith?
If we want to see God move, we must trust Him intentionally. Here are five areas where trust invites breakthrough.
Five Areas to Trust God and See Him Move
- Trust Him with your direction. The Israelites did not choose their route. God did. Sometimes the long way is the protected way. Trust that He knows where He is leading you even when it feels unfamiliar.
- Trust Him with your provision. Manna fell daily, not yearly. God often provides enough for today so that dependence remains fresh. Trust Him for what you need right now.
- Trust Him with your battles. “The Lord will fight for you.” Not every fight requires your effort. Some require your surrender. Let God handle what only He can win.
- Trust Him with your identity. They had to stop thinking like slaves before they could live like free people. Trust that God is redefining who you are.
- Trust Him with your legacy. Exodus became a testimony repeated for generations. Your obedience today may become someone else’s courage tomorrow.
